Meet The Goose

Kate Moyer

Founder & Longarm Quilter

Kate Moyer (they/them) has been happily honking along their quilting journey since 2012, when they first fell head-over-heels for the steady rhythm of a sewing machine. What hooked them? The feel of fabric under their fingers, the swirl of color and pattern, and that magical moment when texture, thread, and imagination click into place. They were a goner from the very first stitch.

Honk honk!

Playful precision and heartfelt care in every stitch.

Long before owning a longarm, Kate would trial every longarm in quilt shops and at conventions just to admire the hum and glide of the machines. The smooth sweep across the frame. The speed. The freedom. It felt a little bit like flying. After testing different setups and with a perfectly timed nudge from a talented friend, Kate found their perfect match and welcomed a Bernina Q24 into their home studio. It was love at first honk.

Kate lives in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, with their husband, Pinky. Their children are grown. One is married and living nearby with her wife, and the other is away at college, but family remains the heart of everything. Known as “Aunt Tate” to nieces and nephews, Kate is often whisking them off on adventures. Sewing runs through the family flock, shared with their mom and college-age kiddo, who teaches at The Sewing Room when home on break.

When they’re not longarming, Kate is the owner and creative force behind The Sewing Room, mentoring makers of all ages and helping them build skills, confidence, and the joyful stubbornness required to finish what they start.

At the heart of Silly Goose Quilting is the simple belief that every quilt deserves to be finished with intention and joy. Every stitch is approached with care, connection, and a playful spirit, because making something by hand should feel good, and the finish should feel just as meaningful as the first cut.
